Academic Support
Establishing a trusting relationship with students
Twice a year, each student will meet his / her counselor to touch base in regard to how school life is going overall. A counselor's main responsibility is to the student, though parent communication is highly valued.
Throughout the school year, I receive copies of notes to parents, progress reports, and report cards, all of which allow me to follow a student's academic and personal progress within the school community. Beyond check-up appointments, students may see me because of student request or referral by teacher, administrators or parents.
What can be discussed with a counselor? The main areas of counseling focus are personal, academic, post-secondary, and career. In students' senior years, counselors assist students in making the right course choices that will eventually lead them to their areas of post-secondary interests and scholarships.
